30,000 acres of land preserved in Alberta, Canada

Jim Lynch-Staunton and his father, Hugh, ride at the historic Waldron ranch on Sept. 11, 2013. At Waldron, a co-operative of ranchers has entered an agreement with the Nature Conservatory of Canada to permanently conserve more than 30,000 acres of land on the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains. I was pleased to see on the Canadian news in September that the Nature Conservancy of Canada bought the development rights to preserve more than 30,000 acres of land in Alberta, Canada.  They purchased this conservation restriction for $15 million from a cooperative of 72 ranchers.  The ranchers wanted the land preserved and this conservation restriction, which will become part of the the current and all future deeds, will allow ranching to continue on the land, but additional development will not be allowed.
